As a happy homemaker, I have several gadgets to help make my life in the kitchen, well...happier. Here are my favorite five gadgets. Every gal should have these in her cabinets.

1. Kitchen Aid Artisan Mixer. An absolute classic. This bad boy can make cookie dough, bread dough - you name it, the mixer can do it. And check out all the fab-u-lous colors now! Unfortunately, I was on the up and up when I received mine as a Christmas gift and white was still the only option.

2. Cuisinart Toaster Oven / Broiler. This is a wonderfully convenient appliance for baking a potato or two, chicken breast and reheating pizza (so it's not mushy). An added bonus is that it doubles as a toaster, so you can eliminate additional appliances. For a toaster, it seems like a splurge, but when cooking for one or two, it's a wonderful asset in the kitchen.

3. Garlic Press. This gadget minces and slices garlic. Added bonus - you don't even have to peel the cloves before mincing them. I've been known to be a little over-zealous with the garlic, particularly when it comes to mashed potatoes. So, if you have vampire-like tendencies, beware!

4. Pizza Wheel. The hubs and I

love to make homemade pizza (our favorites include veggie and white pizza with garlic, spinach and fresh mozzarella) and this non-stick, silicone wheel works wonders. It neatly cuts slices and won't scratch your non-stick pans. It's also dishwasher safe on the top rack.

5. Paddle Grater. I grate everything with these - citrus zest, fresh

cheese, chocolate. As I've matured in the kitchen, I realize that a little garnish can go a long way, even when cooking spaghetti with sauce from a jar - a little fresh grated parmesan feels like Little Italy. You can throw these on the top rack in the dish washer and they clean wonderfully.
